The Accidents Stats are in for 2022!

In the recent years prior to the pandemic, the rate of self-reported work-related ill health had been mostly flat. The current rate is higher than the 2018/19 pre-coronavirus levels!

  • 123 workers were killed 2021-2022 (work-related accidents)
  • 565k non-fatal self-reported injuries
  • Nearly 62k employee non-fatal injuries reported by employers
  • 100k workers suffering from COVID-19 in 2021/22, which they believe may have been from exposure to coronavirus whilst at work.

Agriculture, forestry and fishing, construction, accommodation and food service activities and wholesale and retail trade (including motor vehicle repair) had significantly higher workplace injury rates compared to the average rate across all industries.

Moving away from injuries, there were 1.8 million workers estimated to have suffered work-related illness with now 914k of these cases relating to stress, anxiety or depression.

  • 17 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2021/22
  • 914k workers suffering from work-related stress, depression or anxiety
  • Industries with higher-than-average rates of work-related stress, depression or anxiety, averaged 2019/20–2021/22 were: –
  • Public admin/defence
  • Human health/social work
  • Education
